It was a beautiful day on June 1st with a huge crowd for the Beacon Hill Festival! Many bean seeds were given away along with our bean necklaces. Mayor McGinn even stopped by to pick up some seeds, turns out he's a seed saver! In case you missed us last Saturday, don't fret, we'll be back for Beacon Rocks on June 30th. See you then! Winner of Guess the # of beans was Stan Sakura who got within 100 beans of the total--he won a gift certificate for Traveler's Thali, a local champion of beans in their dahls and choles.
We sold over $50 of heirloom bean seeds to benefit the Beacon Hill Garden Club, and had folks take at least 20 buckets and much bamboo for their bean growing efforts. We will see the neighbors again Saturday May 4 outside El Centro in the big tent from 1-5pm. Come get free seeds, info sheets, and purchase heirloom seeds for $1 (Mother's Day right around the corner!) Come hear about our plans for the Demonstration Garden surrounding El Centro's parking lot. Beacon Hill's first public U-Pick! We'd love it if the community can help plant the 24 planters with over 20 varieties of heirloom beans. Sign up to help at our table anytime between 1-4pm. Mid May we'll start planting our buckets of scarlet runner beans to bedeck merchant spaces along Beacon Ave. S. and 15th Ave. S. We can use help with that also. Our winner for the Bean Haiku contest was Zahara B.
